Sometime ago I spent a number of days browsing finance/dev forums for a recommendation of a good C++ book.
Well, most of people did mention “The C++ Programming Language” by Bjarne Stroustrup, but would ramble about the complexity of the book. I disagree!!!

The book is awesome! It reads as if it was written by a scientist. If is very clear and written in a way my brain certainly favors …

God bless that person who optimized our clustering algorithm. It almost killed sensitivity of our experiment to CHAMPs. What is more personal it did kill a number of my (favorite) neurons.

A note to all of us — a scientist should implement an algorithm and not a professional programmer (no offense). Let the professional review what you have done, and by no means let him unattended.

Note to myself: do not submit projects to the GRID with 4k events per job — they will come back only in 3 days. But what do I do if I need a couple of M events?

Well, what a disappointing day! First, I am observing that the module in the production batch is performing like crap. Yes, yes — production. Mind that two out of first four are dead! This one, that sort of works, has a very scary feature. More studies are on the way…

Second — I wasted a whole hour of my time in anticipation of a discovery… that was not that statistically significant …

Third — the fracking batches, both cab and grid are producing I/O errors or just decide to restart my jobs that have been running for 30 hrs.

Not a good day, not a good day… Wanna chat?

to estimate noise in the pixels I had refresh some (rather elementary) math. Oh, boy, did it feel good to do that! Those ~~sweet~~ bitter-sweet textbooks by Abramovich, Stegun, and Fihtengolz… Memories….

Ughh. It is time to clean up loose ends, especially with all this growing excitement around the start up. There will be a short workshop next week and my material studies would/should/could fit right in. Except the ~~bugga~~ my code does not work.

I have been debugging high and low, abused GRID and SE here and around the world and by now have exhausted all possibilities that there is a bug in my code. Carley — it’s your code’s turn now!
